The last month in Canada has been a pleasure full of great people, great times, and lovely childhood memories. I don’t think I fully realize just how lucky a person I am when at 26 I can come home and live with my family for a summer and have that be a wonderful thing. Many travellers dread trips coming to an end, and in a way I did, but lately my life’s been from one great thing to another, so thanks to all my family and friends in Canada who make this true. I loved seeing you all, and If I didn’t get a chance to see you I hope I will next time. Now though ‘m back where I think I belong, on that endless road.
I’m writing this blog from the Syracuse airport. It’s 11 p.m. and my flight leaves at 6. I’ve got a whirlwind connection in NYC and then on to Cartagena, Colombia for the beginning of leg two. The current plan is to spend 18-24 months exploring South and Central America, as well as Mexico and hopefully some of the southern U.S. too.
While I’m buzzing with excitement this beginning is not without it’s share of sadness. Saying goodbye to my brother and father outside the airport was a strange experience. (Thanks for driving me down guys!) I think last time when I left for the first leg of this now 5 or 6 year plan I was leaving England, and doing it on my own. Of course there were still a lot of goodbye’s but none really mean as much as family seems to. Still, It’s nice to know that whenever these feet grow weary, I’ve got a warm bed to rest my ever spinning head . Somewhere to recover from and reflect on the countless wonders of this world, both the sublime and the terrible, and somewhere to call home when a new friend asks me where I’m from..
It’s been a great Canadian summer. Thank you to everyone who made it so wonderful and I hope to see you all before too long. Now it’s time for a new continent, a new country, a new culture. Basically, another adventure which I am lucky enough to fill my life with. Can’t wait! And away we go!!!!
