This one will just be a short entry. I start the morning very early heading to the airport with Renata to see her off since she needs to work later today. This goodbye is not so hard as we’ll see each other later tonight. I’m planning to grab an uber back to the city but find the surge pricing has gone crazy at the airport so I end up on a long early morning stroll through the residential neighbourhoods around the airport until I can find a normal priced uber to take me back downtown to our air bnb. Dona Ana, Vinny, Felipe and I fly back to Sao paulo mid afternoon.
Later that morning the boys and I decide to go for one last little exploration of Fortaleza’s impressive waterfront, Vinny bringing his birthday present of a new skateboard with him. It’s swelteringly hot but the ocean breezes help as we wander along the waterfront Vinny impressing us with his ever growing skating ability. I snap lots of photos and also manage to take a simple but nasty spill while crossing the street. You’d think it would be the person skateboarding to end up with scraped knees but nope.
The sand eventually overwhelms even the sidewalks so we seek to avoid it by heading out onto the long pier which has previously provided me great views of the city. The fact that it’s lined with benches make it perfect for skating and the wind helps do something to relieve us from the absurd heat of Brazil’s North East.
Before too long time is running out and we need to head back to the air bnb to meet donna ana and get an uber to the airport for our own flights back to sao paulo. Still we skate our way there felipe even getting on briefly and, to help us beat the heat, we get some iced coconuts to drink on the way. As we go Vinny is getting better and better with his new skateboard.
This brings an end to the blogs set in Brazil for now. Coming up a week with Ben and Azi in Southern Peru and then almost 7 weeks worth of adventures from Southern Africa. I hope you’re as excited to read them as I am to write them.
