We wake up early and I’m somewhat disappointed after breakfast to find out we’re just going to drive straight through Etosha to the exit, but I understand there is a lot to do. We drive for several hours out of the park and towards the cities, our first real stop being a craft market beside a gas station parking lot while we eat lunch. I browse but don’t buy, it’s too early in my trip to be buying everything. The plastic spoon soap dispenser in the gas station bathroom is something of a novelty too.
We drive a while longer and eventually arrive into Namibia’s capital, which is really not that big a city, but it feels massive after the last 10 days I’ve spent on the road. And another great thing about arriving in the city is that tonight we’ll be sleeping in a hotel, and one with a great buffet breakfast too.
But first we get dropped off in the centre of town to have a wander around. I wander through the centre stopping at a cool church and getting a frozen yogurt as well as helping Monica and Warren change money as they did not bring their passports. It’s then I realize Ive never actually seen Australian money.
While walking I frustratingly slip and catch myself with my hand and rip open a wound from back in shark diving which just sucks. I enjoy a frozen yogurt and free wifi before heading back to the pick up point and going to the rainbow hotel and checking into a rom with Bas. But not before we see an awesome blue and orange lizard scuttling up a tree as warren attempts to give chase.
After a nice hot shower and a bit more wifi time I head back into the city with a collectivo I catch on the road. People say it’s not safe so much but I met three awesome people before being dropped off at the same indian restaurant I ate at in swakopmund. Sadly this one is not quite as good though still passable and leaves me happy as I head back to the hotel at the edge of town and fall quickly asleep. I’ve been in need of a bed and I’m going to be sure I take advantage of this one night, as there won’t be another until we get to Victoria Falls.
