Nepal is an amazing country. The standard of comfort and cleanliness here is lower than in Europe. That said these three hostels/guesthouses did a good job.

Great Social atmosphere with rooftop restaurant and chill space. Right at the edge of Thamel neighbourhood. Close to Royal Palace and where buses leave.
Hard beds, and a lot of drugs abound. (This could be a pro depending on your point of view)
Great Host family, especially Chandra. Great location just removed from the main street. Amazing views from the balcony. A very social atmosphere despite private rooms.
The doors lock around midnight so not a place to party.
